The standard practice for RO pre-filtration is to install a 5-micron cartridge filter as the final pre-treatment stage before the high-pressure pump and RO membranes. For higher turbidity feed water, a two-stage system using 20-micron followed by 5-micron cartridges is recommended. Our technical team can advise on the best filter configuration for your feed water quality.
String wound cartridges are low-cost, high-dirt-holding capacity filters suited for coarser filtration duties. Pleated cartridges offer higher flow rates at lower pressure drop and are better for fine filtration (1–5 micron) where consistent particle removal is critical. For pre-RO duty, pleated cartridges provide more reliable protection for membranes due to sharper cut-off filtration.
