A 5 micron melt blown or string wound polypropylene cartridge is the most common choice for RO pre-filtration, protecting the high-pressure pump and membranes from sediment. Where feed water carries fine colloids we recommend a 5 micron pleated cartridge, and carbon block cartridges are added upstream to remove chlorine that can oxidise thin-film RO membranes.
